Is Mykonos Island Right For Your Family Holiday?
Mykonos Family Holidays at Cavo Psarou Suites
Mykonos island, Greece is known for a few things. You might know it for its strong gusting winds, or the quirky windmills scattered throughout Chora and the surrounding area. You might know it as a Cycladic island with 365 churches, one for every day. There’s a good chance you know Mykonos for its lively party scene.
Because of the latter, when people think of visiting Mykonos island, they might not think of it as a place to take the family. But you would be wrong to dismiss Mykonos as a family holiday destination. Not everything is about raging parties here in Mykonos, and there are many family friendly attractions that all ages will love.
Hit the Beach
Make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen for Mykonos family holidays, and head out to the beach as often as you can. We have several beaches, each offering a different experience. For the parents who want to cut back and party, there’s Super Paradise beach, well known for its wild parties and nearby clubs.
However if you want something in Mykonos for families, you might try the quieter beaches like Agrari beach, which even includes a small playground for young children. It’s calm and safe, a place to enjoy water sports or swimming, or just grab a drink and settle in on the shore. The tidy, quiet Ornos beach is often considered the best beach in Mykonos for families.
Depending on the distance between it and Mykonos accommodation, your family would likely love Psarou beach, quieter but easily one of the most beautiful Mykonos beaches. There are rocks nearby for climbing (make sure you wear shoes to protect your feet), as well as crystal clear waters for swimming. That’s our location at Cavo Psarou Suites, but we’re also within a short distance of Platis Gialos beach, one of the most popular beaches on Mykonos island.
Explore Chora
Sometimes called Mykonos town, the capital of Mykonos island is the village of Chora, and it’s buzzing with activity. Here you can find all the shops, restaurants, and cafes your heart desires. In particular, you can visit the unique Little Venice, a lovely neighborhood perched at the edge of the water that has inspired artists from all over. Little Venice can become a bit crowded, depending on when you visit, but the kids are sure to love it, and you will, too.
The rest of Chora has tourist attractions and shops open late to keep you entertained. You’ll also notice here that Mykonos family holidays are more common than you might have expected. You can see kids out with their families throughout Chora. One suggestion in Chora is to make a game of trying to find all of the windmills. There are 16 total, though some are in the outlying areas rather than in town proper. Though no longer operational, the structures certainly continue to draw the eye.
Go Sightseeing
There’s plenty of Mykonos sightseeing to be had, from historic churches to museums and archaeological excavations. Visit the Panagia Paraportiani, a Byzantine church that has lasted longer even than the medieval castle that was once its neighbor. Check out Delos island, once believed to be the birthplace of the Greek god Apollo. Or see the pelicans that stroll through Mykonos harbor.
One way to ensure you get the most of your sightseeing is through Mykonos tours. These tours will have expert tour guides who can show you all the best spots on Mykonos island, as well as offer tidbits of educational information. One way to thrill the whole family is with a sailing tour, particularly one with a stop that includes scuba diving or snorkeling.
Keep In Mind
Mykonos is an excellent place for a family holiday, but shouldn’t be treated in the same way you treat a spring break holiday or honeymoon. Ask someone on staff at your Mykonos suites what attractions are appropriate for kids, or do some research online. Remember that kids have smaller legs and aren’t as used to hiking it as you might be: the best plan for transportation is just to rent a car. They’re also more likely to get tired soon, which is why it’s essential that you have good accommodation to return to at the end of the day.
Located in Psarou, Mykonos, Cavo Psarou Suites is happy to provide that. We have a relaxing atmosphere right on the beach where you can enjoy the invigorating sea breeze from your veranda and outdoor jacuzzi. Refresh yourself in one of our two suites. The Artemis suite is our more contemporary Mykonos suite, while still paying tribute to the traditional architecture of Greece. It has an open concept and is excellent for families, hosting as many as 4. For a smaller family, there’s the Apollon suite. Our second MykonosMykonos suite is cozier and has a more classic feel to it, though both are equally luxurious. It’s all down to your taste.
Mykonos island, Greece is more than just for parties. Take your whole family to experience it with you the next time you book your stay.
